Eocycle direct-drive small wind turbine technology history
About Eocycle Technologies

Our History: 20+ Years of Wind Energy Innovation

Pioneering gearbox-free direct-drive distributed wind technology to empower commercial, agricultural, and microgrid self-production across North America and Europe.

Pioneering Distributed Renewable Energy

Two Decades of Mechanical Simplification and Technological Excellence

Founded in 2001 in Montréal, Canada, Eocycle set out to solve the primary point of failure in traditional wind turbines: mechanical complexity. By replacing high-wear gearboxes with proprietary direct-drive permanent magnet generators, Eocycle engineered machines designed for 30 years of continuous operation with minimal O&M intervention.

Today, backed by institutional energy investors and export development agencies, Eocycle provides turnkey distributed energy solutions—integrating wind turbines, solar arrays, energy storage systems, and AI-driven Energy Management Systems (EMS) for clients worldwide.

Milestones of Excellence

Our Strategic Evolution & Growth Journey

Key achievements that established Eocycle as a global leader in distributed wind energy and microgrid hybrid systems.

2001

Company Foundation & Core IP Acquisition

Eocycle was established in Canada to commercialize revolutionary generator technology, laying the groundwork for high-torque, direct-drive permanent magnet generator designs.

2009

Commercial Launch of Transverse Flux Technology

Introduced the first generation of commercial wind turbines utilizing patented Transverse Flux Permanent Magnet (TFPM) generators, setting new industry standards for efficiency at low rotational speeds.

2013

Utility-Grade Executive Leadership & EOX Platform

Appointed executive management from the utility-scale wind sector. Initiated a rigorous 4-year R&D program to develop the certified EOX S-Series turbine, focusing exclusively on distributed 20 kW to 90 kW energy generation.

2018

Transatlantic Mergers & Market Expansion

Acquired the IP and operating assets of United Wind (USA), Orenda Energy (Canada), and XANT BV (Belgium). Consolidated technological portfolio and expanded manufacturing footprint across North America and Europe.

2020 – 2021

Integrated Solar & Battery Storage Systems (WS²)

Launched integrated energy storage and hybrid WS² solutions (Wind + Solar + Battery Storage), empowering agricultural and industrial customers with year-round self-generation and peak-shaving autonomy.

2023 – 2024

Institutional Equity Investment ($25M CAD)

Secured $25 million CAD in equity financing led by Export Development Canada (EDC), co-funded by Fonds de solidarité FTQ and Investissement Québec. Expanded manufacturing lines in North America and Europe to support market growth in the US Midwest, Great Plains, and EU markets.

2025 – Present

Launch of Next-Generation EOX WS²+™ with AI EMS

Integrated proprietary AI-driven Energy Management System (EMS) into the WS²+ platform. Optimizes real-time load dispatch, mitigates negative grid tariffs, manages dynamic spot-market pricing, and delivers reliable backup power.

Corporate Mission & Ethics

Driven by Autonomy, Performance, and Integrity

We empower agricultural, industrial, and microgrid operators to control electricity overhead while accelerating decarbonization.

Reliability

Uncompromised Reliability

System reliability is directly proportional to mechanical simplicity. Gearbox-free direct drive designs ensure continuous operation under extreme climatic conditions.

Performance

Optimized Financial ROI

Engineered to deliver maximum power output per square metre of land, lowering the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE) over a 30-year operational life.

Integrity

Complete Transparency

From initial wind energy yield modeling to utility grid interconnection and long-term service agreements, we deliver transparent, performance-backed projects.

Proprietary Technology

Full Control Over Critical Component Engineering

Unlike assemblers relying on third-party supply chains, Eocycle owns 100% of the commercial rights and intellectual property for all vital wind energy system components:

  • Direct-Drive Generator (The Heart): Gearbox-free, low RPM permanent magnet generator engineered for high torque density.
  • Internal Controller (The Brain): Proprietary SCADA architecture providing real-time remote diagnostics and predictive maintenance monitoring.
  • Hydraulic Tower Systems (The Muscle): Self-erecting hydraulic towers eliminating heavy crane requirements during installation and servicing.
